Up to now, Ferrari’s 2023 is proving to be really negative, considering the bad outcome of the first three races of the championship. In fact, the men in red are experiencing a rude awakening after a winter of work and proclamations for a season which, according to expectations, should be the one in which they would have fought against Red Bull for the championship in Maranello.
But it’s been the opposite. Ferrari has collected only a handful of points during this start to the championship, showing disappointing performances in the first two races in Bahrain and Jeddah: events in which the car underperformed, showing a lack of downforce, problems about tyre management and lack of data correlation between simulations and reality.
In Australia, where things seemed to be going slightly better, with a car with pace comparable to its rivals, good tyre management and excellent straight-line speed, zero points were collected due to driver errors and penalties imposed by the race direction.
To date, the Italian team has scored only 26 points (the worst result since the current scoring system was adopted in 2010) and is managing the disappointment and the heavy pressure experienced internally at GeS and the deep disappointment of the fans who, for the umpteenth time, were forced to postpone their dreams of glory.
A discontent that Lapo Elkann (the brother of Ferrari president John Elkann) expressed using his Twitter profile, acting as the spokesperson for millions of fans around the world, inviting the team to “wake up” to find a solution to get out of this bad moment and to return to the levels that compete to the team.
“Ferrari Formula 1 it’s time to wake up!”, he tweeted yesterday.
A short but clear message which, as inevitably gathered many comments in a few hours from the Cavallino supporters who, among other things, urged Lapo to express this thought to his brother John to ensure that he, together with the CEO Benedetto Vigna and team principal Frederic Vasseur, can make the right decisions to revive the Scuderia.
A thought that Elkann (who has always shown a great love for the Scuderia), unexpectedly claimed to have already expressed, in fact he said: “I’ve already talked with my brother John”.
