In the leadup to Disney+’s first-ever F1 series, Disney released the first poster and trailer for Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, a four-part documentary about the founding, turmoil, and stunning victories of Brawn GP, a one-season time that won both the Constructors’ and Driver’s Championships in 2009.
The series, narrated by Canadian actor Keanu Reaves, is scheduled to release on November 15th worldwide. The poster details a victory pose by 2009 Driver’s Champions Jenson Button, following by a profile of the rear of the legendary Brawn GP BGP-001 and Keanu Reaves in front of it.
The trailer shows Reeves’ fascination with motorsport, and interviews with important people from the team, such as the drivers from that year Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, and Team Principal Ross Brawn.
After rising from the ashes of Honda’s shock exit from F1 at the end of the 2008 as the financial crisis started to bite, they were sold to Ross Brawn for one Pound Sterling.
Brawn GP won on debut at the 2009 Australian Grand Prix following stunning pace at testing that shocked everyone, including the team. They would go on to win both titles in an extraordinary sporting story.
They were also known for an innovative part of their car, the “double diffuser”, which saw them have vital additional downforce and gave them a competitive edge throughout the first part of the season, with Button winning six of the first seven races.
Although Red Bull came back strongly as the season went on as Brawn couldn’t develop their car too much, they held off that charge to becoming champions.
After the 2009 season, the team was bought and rebranded as the current Mercedes F1 team for 2010. Jenson Button then moved to McLaren, and Rubens Barrichello moving to Williams, while Ross Brawn remained Team Principal at the new Mercedes team.
The series is exclusive to Disney+ subscribers, and will launch in full, worldwide, on November 15th, 2023.
