The British driver who competed in the previous years with Juncos Hollinger Racing will be behind the wheel of Arrow McLaren’s car no. 6 during the upcoming hybrid tests at Homestead.
Illott will be replacing the latest driver signed by the papayas, David Malukas. The young driver with two podiums in the two IndyCar seasons he has completed with Dale Coyne Racing suffered from a crash while riding a mountain bike during the off season.
Unfortunately the runner up of the 2021 IndyLights season had to undergo surgery for his wrist following the incident, which took place on the 13th of February. Thus, Malukas will have to skip the inaugural round of the 2024 IndyCar season in St. Petersburg.
Cue Callum Ilott. The Englishman, who has been signed by Jota Sports for WEC and will try to secure another podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in May, will replace Malukas during the tests on the 21st of February.

Pato O’Ward will start off McLaren’s hybrid testing session on the 20th whereas Alexander Rossi will round off the three days on the 22nd.
Arrow McLaren will be announcing Malukas’s replacement for St. Petersburg in due time, as Team Principal Gavin Ward said on the topic:
“We all wish David a speedy recovery, and we’re working out some options with the No. 6 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet crew in the meantime.
“Callum had a seat fit last week and will test with us in Homestead, and we’re looking forward to working with him this week. Then, hopefully we’ll be able to confirm our roster for St. Pete soon after.”
The former Ferrari Driver Academy was pleased with the unexpected opportunity. Ilott commented the news and wished all the best to the recovering driver:
“Obviously I feel sorry for David and the team. It’s not easy to be in this position especially just ahead of the start of the season. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery.
“I’m glad I’m able to help out the team, and it’s a privilege to test this week with Arrow McLaren. I’m thankful they’re considering me for the opportunity,” concluded Ilott.
