Jake Dennis secured double second-place finishes at the 2024 Misano E-Prix, demonstrating a strong comeback after facing setbacks. Starting from ninth, the Andretti driver made significant gains to secure podium positions on both days, which allowed him to gain the championsip lead.
Dennis credited his performance to the Porsche powertrain, highlighting its efficiency and reliability. “It all came together, from ninth to second is a pretty good day in the office but it was a struggle as you saw. As soon as the pace picked up at the front I just got dropped immediately and fell back into the clutches of both Nicks, it was just survival mode for me today. This weekend has been a real struggle but coming home with two second places when you’re starting outside of the top 10 yesterday is a good starting point,” he shared.
Reflecting on the differences between the races, Dennis noted, “From my side, I felt like it was a bit better than yesterday. You know, maybe the first five laps were quite similar, which was expected, and then I felt like the pace picked up pretty quick and it was a bit more clean and the overtakes were a bit more genuine. But yeah, I felt like it was a step in the right direction.”
Despite enjoying the dynamic nature of Formula E, Dennis acknowledged the difficulties faced over the weekend, particularly with car balance affecting his efficiency. “Yeah, it was a tough race for us, to be honest. We really struggled with a few things inside of the car, generally all weekend. But especially in that race I didn’t have great efficiency due to not a great balance. And then, if you’ve got a bad balance, then it’s generally a long race ahead. So, yeah, really happy to come home, obviously second.”
Looking ahead, Dennis emphasised the need for improvements before the next race. “There’s a lot of hard work to do before Monaco to sort our qualifying pace out and then we can really start the championship,” he concluded.
With crucial points added to their tally, Dennis and the Andretti team are focused on refining their strategies and technical setup as they prepare for the upcoming Monaco E-Prix.
