After almost working for two decades for the team, Red Bull Racing confirmed on Wednesday (01.05.2024) that their chief technical officer Adrian Newey will part ways with the team after the first quarter of 2025 as he will work on the RB17 hypercar project until then.
Despite the ongoing rumours, it is not known for a certain where Newey will be joining or what his plans for the future are.
But Perez thinks that Newey’s will have an “immediate impact” on any team he might join in the future.
“Adrian, with the experience he has, he has contributed a lot to the Red Bull philosophy so I assume he will cause an immediate impact wherever he goes or whatever he does.”
Perez praised Newey for his hard work and dedication and believes that with the right group of people, he can turn a team around.
“He is a very clever guy and a very hard worker. Working with Adrian, he is much more than a designer, he can influence even strategies, set-up, he could have that influence on a race weekend.
“To have him around on race weekends was great. He is a very strong individual and wherever he goes he will cause an immediate impact. But it is a whole group of people that he will require to have around him as well.”
Adrian Newey is one of the key figures responsible for producing some of the best F1 cars to have ever been designed and that would go on to win championships. He is the most successful F1 car designer with 13 Drivers’ Championships and 12 Constructors’ Championships won by drivers in his cars.
Despite feeling disappointed with Newey’s departure from the team, the Mexican feels optimistic about the team’s future. Red Bull has a lot of key figures on the technical side who will try to bridge the gap that Newey will be leaving after his departure.
