F2 | Sprint Race | British GP | Antonelli grabs his maiden F2 win, after action packed sprint race at Silverstone

Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be lining his Prema up in pole position for the Formula 2 sprint race in Silverstone, just head of Rodin Motorsport’s Zane Maloney, after the top ten from yesterday’s qualifying session are reversed. 

Due to the wet conditions in Silverstone, the race will be started as a rolling start. 

Antonelli leads Maloney and Maini into turn 1, Bortoleto under pressure, before making contact with Bearman, the Prema losing its end plate. 

Bortoleto and Crawford battle through Copse side by side, Bortoleto nosing ahead through Maggots and Becketts. 

The rain begins to bucket down, spray being thrown up everywhere. Colapinto makes a move on Bearman, Hauger following him through shortly after, all while Martins puts Bearman under major pressure, before passing him also

Bortoleto and O’Sullivan are noted for forcing another driver off the track. Aron and Hadjar go through the final corner side by side, narrowly avoiding contact, Hadjar nosing ahead. 

Hadjar makes his move on Bearman but cannot make it stick. 

A yellow flag in sector one brings out a Virtual Safety Car. The green flag is waved once again, and Aron makes his move on Hadjar, placing his Hitech into 10th. 

Miyata and O’Sullivan fight for 12th place, O’Sullivan coming out in front. Correa spins through the final corner, then running wide and dropping down to 21st, as a virtual safety car is brought out again. 

A red flag is brought out due to the heavy rainfall, Correa’s incident proving the severity of the conditions. 

Cordeel is under investigation for speeding in pit lane, resulting in a drive through penalty. 

The cars are led out of the pit lane by the safety car to restart the race with a rolling start. 

Martins makes a place on Hauger, as does Colapinto shortly after the restart. Maini and Bortoleto fight for 3rdplace. Hadjar and Marti go side by side, fighting for 12th, Marti staying ahead. 

Marti and Aron coming to a stop in Wellington straight, O’Sullivan making contact with Aron before Marti flies up behind him, collecting Aron’s rear left wheel. Hadjar is also off in the gravel in Copse, after running straight off. The safety car is brought out. Aron and Marti’s incident is under investigation with the stewards. 

The race will finish as a timed race, with 19 minutes left, instead of the remaining 11 laps. 

The safety car returns to the pit lane at the end of lap 12, with 16 minutes to go, Antonelli getting the start he wanted, and remaining ahead of Maloney, and starting lap 13 a second ahead of Maloney. 

Hauger makes a move on Bearman stick, Bearman attempting a switchback. Bortoleto attempts a move on Maini through Copse, unsuccessfully. 

Bearman spins off at Copse, dropping down to 18th before re-joining the track. 

Martins dives down the inside of Bortoleto, unable to make the move stick. Colapinto and Crawford go side by side, before O’Sullivan dives through on Colapinto through Copse. 

Dürksen and Miyata go side by side, Dürksen unable to keep it on the track through Brooklands. 

A yellow flag waves in sector 2 and 3. 

Martins and O’Sullivan battle through The Loop, Martins being tapped and spun, dropping down the timing sheets. This incident will be investigated post-race. 

Bearman pulls over on the Hangar Straight, jumping out of his car. 

A virtual safety car is brought out. Villagomez and Cordeel are under investigation for forcing another driver off the track. 

With 4 minutes and one lap left on the clock, Antonelli remains 4.5 seconds ahead of Maloney. 

Dürksen and Miyata fight down Hamilton Straight, Dürksen spinning through Abbey. 

Miyata and Stanek battle down to Stowe corner for 8th position, Stanek inching ahead through turn 3, moving all the way up from 22nd. 

Colapinto continues to encroach on Crawford before passing him, only to lose the place back to Crawford straight away. 

Maini and Bortoleto fight through Brooklands, narrowly missing each other through Luffield. 

Kimi Antonelli reaches the chequered flag first, claiming his maiden Formula 2 win. 

Bortoleto and Maini fight to the line, Maini running wide, allowing Bortoleto through at the last second, taking the podium away from Maini.
