A mostly wet track greeted the front row consisting of Dino Beganovic and Gabriele Miní, but that didn’t stop the drivers to start on slicks. During the formation lap it became clear that Tim Tramnitz and the Prema team were under investigation for an unsafe release and a pit lane infringement respectively.
Everyone got away cleanly, albeit slowly, at the start, and it was Minì who got the best get-away and entered La Source first. Further down the field it was busy, but everyone got safely through the hairpin.
It did however go wrong on top of Raidillon as Max Esterson loses control and hits the inside wall, which brings out the safety car. The third Prema of Arvid Lindblad in the meantime has gone from from 27th to 16th after picking a smart line through La Source. Luke Browning was, rightly so, quite delighted with his overtake on Noel León, around the outside of Bruxelles.
Minì floored the accelerator halfway through Blanchimont at the restart, but he has a bad exit out of La Source, giving Beganovic a great tow, and the Swede overtakes his teammate in Les Combes. Tramnitz is under pressure from Santiago Ramos but keeps third place, as Beganovic is adviced by his team to switch back as he cut the corner on top of Raidillon.
Browning is dropping back in the meantime, as he is re-passed by Leon and later by Sebastian Montoya, so his delight about his overtake was short lived. A lap later he is challenged by Sami Meguetounif, and as the Frenchman overtakes around the outside of Les Combes, Browing slides straight on, forcing both through the grass. Meguetounif has the place however.
Up front Beganovic is now urged to create a gap to Minì, as Browning tries to get the place back from Meguetounif. The gap doesn’t really materialise and Beganovic has a hairy moment on top of Raidillon, and the group up front closes up, with first to sixth all within a second of eachother.
With three laps to go it rains fastest laps as the track is clearly drying, which provides Tramnitz with the opportunity to overtake into Les Combes. Miní outbrakes himself, but manages to keep second place.
It is raining black-and-white flags for track limit violations, as Meguetounif, Martinius Stenshorne, Tramnitz, Lindblad and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak all get one.
In the last lap Tramnitz is under pressure from León and all those behind them, as DRS is now enabled. The MP Motorsport driver has the best run through Eau Rouge and Raidillon, but cannot defend against the DRS and has to yield third place to León.
Further in the lap Tramnitz gets attacked by Ramos in Fagnes, but he manages to fend of the initial attack. The two keep battling through Stavelot, bunching up the pack and having five cars approaching the former Bus Stop chicane looking for fourth. They all slide through the final corner, and it is Tramnitz comes out on top of this group.
Beganovic has already crossed the line in first, followed by Minì and León. Tramnitz is then fourth from Tramnitz, Ramos and Meguetounif. He is however penalised for track limits, dropping him to 29th for the moment. This promotes Browning to sixth, from Montoya, Leonardo Fornaroli, Oliver Goethe and Callum Voisin, but with penalties for track limit violations flowing in this might be far from final.
