The second full day of testing opened with strong performance offered by some well known names which have been impressing in these days so far: reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein signed the earliest fast lap in 1:28.9s, improved afterwards by Maserati’s Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes.
It has been a very productive and impressive session for newborn Kiro Racing, with Dan Ticktum cycling at the lead at the halfway point of the session and rookie test mate David Beckmann holding the top spot for the morning session with a 1:27.755s.
The German driver slotted in ahead of the Porsche duo of Wehrlein and Da Costa, as the German team home to the latest championship winner impresses once more.
The afternoon testing session began with a full on race simulation featuring the test of the newly implemented racing mode Attack Charge. All possible events were tested, from full course yellows to Attack Mode activations, to practise starts.
Wehrlein took the top spot of this mock race as well, passing DS Penske’s Jean Eric Vergne with 4 laps to the end.
Afterwards, the teams were allowed mor track time, as Jaguar’s Mitch Evans gets provisional P1 with an hour to go. The British team appear to have closed the gap to the rest of the grid caused by having to sit out the first day of testing because of going against the financial regulations.
The same also happened to Nissan, with 2024 championship contender Oliver Rowland holding the provisional best benchmark for a bit during the previous mo0rning session.
Lola Cars’s Zane Maloney suffered from an electrical issue, which saw his battery turn off after getting a wrong danger signal. Precautionary, Lola decided to stop Lucas di Grassi’s car as well, with the new team announcing that they will both resume the session tomorrow.
Just like in usual Formula E practise sessions most of the action took place towards the end of the session, with the Mahindras of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara setting an 1-2 on their final attempt.
However, it was short lasted as Evans on his final flying lap was able to slot in between the driver duo, with Mortara’s lap time deleted.
