The Estonian racing driver, Paul Aron has been named as the reserve driver for Alpine in 2025. Aron is currently driving in his debut Formula 2 season with Hitech Pulse-Eight and is currently placed at P4 in the overall championship.
Flavio Briatore, Executive Advisor, stated, “We are very pleased to have Paul join BWT Alpine Formula One Team as our 2025 Reserve Driver.”
“There is a generational shift in Formula 1 at the moment, as we see with many young drivers coming into the sport and making an impact. We believe Paul is one of the best talents, and we look forward to developing him into an F1 driver.”
Aron has had an impressive trajectory in his career, starting single-seater racing in the 2019 ADAC Formula 4 Championship with Prema. He was consistent in the championship having nine victories and earning the rookie champion title. He then took part in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2020 along with ART Grand Prix. Furthermore, he placed 11th and was teamed alongside Grégoire Saucy who was comparatively more experienced at the time and outscored Aron.
While he continued his journey in feeder series, he moved back to Prema in the Formula Regional European Championship alongside Dino Beganovic and David Vidales. He placed third in the championship with a total of 197 points he garnered throughout the championship. He continued to drive in the Championship in 2022 and placed second overall, having the most wins and poles in the season.
Although in 2021 and 2022 he took part in post season testing with Prema. It was only in 2023 when the 20-year-old signed with Prema for the 2023 F3 Championship alongside his old teammate Beganovic and Zak O’Sullivan. He finished third overall with 112 points and played an important role in clinching the title for Prema.
He then signed with Trident, replacing Clément Novalak for the remainder of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 season. He then took part in the post season test with Hitech Pulse-Eight before signing with the team in November for the 2024 season alongside Amaury Cordeel.
As of now, the driver has had 4 poles and 7 podiums. While the pressure is on to scoring well in the last few races, there is no doubt about how ecstatic Aron would be feeling.
Paul Aron commented, “It’s incredibly special to be joining BWT Alpine Formula One Team. It is clear that this is a great place to be for any young driver, and I’m really pleased that Flavio and Oliver [Oakes] have given me this opportunity.”
“Before 2025 and the hard work that will come with being the team’s Reserve Driver, I have a Championship to focus on for the remainder of this year and I will be giving it my all to compete for the title. I’m looking forward to really beginning the work and continuing my career pathway in motorsport.”
Aron had many ups and downs in his career, but one of the main downsides of his career was when Mercedes Junior team dropped the driver from their roster in 2023, and Kimi Antonelli joined in place. This resulted in worries of funding and his future in the sport, but to hear this incredible news, has confirmed that the driver will remain in the sport for years to come. Fans are ecstatic to hear the new opportunity he has gained, and are now waiting to see how it goes in the future.
