Formula E’s 2024-2025 season is starting this weekend at São Paulo. Cupra Kiro new drivers look forward to the new challenge ahead. Both say that pre-season testing felt good with a car that seems speedy and that they feel comfortable.
A new name on track
Under the name of Kiro Race Co, Forest Road Company has acquired 100 percent of the former ERT Formula E team. With the acquisition announcement, the team who has recently announced Cupra as title sponsor has signed a partnership with Porsche Motorsport as well.
Kiro has also recently confirmed that Dan Ticktum and David Beckmann will form the driver line-up for Season 11. Both were former Formula 2 drivers, with the Briton bringing significant experience to team, while Beckmann showing huge potential.
“This season has been a long time coming. I’m very happy to be part of CUPRA KIRO,” Ticktum said.
Excited for the season ahead
“I think pre-season testing was very positive. We had a couple of teething issues on the first day, but we reacted to things very well for our level of experience with the new systems on the GEN3 Evo.
“We made some good improvements, even in just four days. The car is pretty fast, and I don’t want to set any goals in stone, but I think we’ve possibly got quite a competitive package.
“It feels like I was in São Paulo only the other day, but it’s a great track, a great city, and I enjoy racing here. I’m looking forward to finally getting to race the new car. It’s been a bit of a wait, so I’m excited to get started.”
Beckmann’s first full FE season
Beckmann has formerly raced in multiple other series and made his Formula E debut in Season 9, when racing for Porsche at Round 10 and 11 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He replaced André Lotterer, who raced for the manufacturer in Le Mans that weekend.
The German said: “I’m very excited to make my debut with CUPRA KIRO this weekend.
“Since pre-season testing, I’ve worked very hard with the team to make sure that I’m prepared as much as possible, and taking the proper time to build up to São Paulo is the best thing that I can do.
“At pre-season testing, the car felt very good. I did a lot of laps, made a lot of progress, and we’ve continued to optimise our performance in the weeks since.
“Over this next weekend, there are new things that I will inevitably learn and discover, but I’m excited to see what São Paulo holds.
“I’m feeling comfortable, and with hard work, I’m confident that I’ll be able to build up and put together a positive season.”
Formula E is back for Season 11 this weekend at São Paulo. The race weekend starts on Friday evening with FP1, before race day on Saturday.
