Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton had a day to forget in Barcelona as he crashes out of testing for Ferrari F1.

The 40-year-old kicked things off with the Scuderia at Fiorano last week. He did some running at Ferrari’s test track to bed himself into the team. Hamilton also got to work with Riccardo Adami, a long time engineer for Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.

On a second day of running in Barcelona as he took turns in the car with Charles Leclerc, the 105-time race winner had an accident. He lost the car in the last sector. While Hamilton was thankfully okay, the car was heavily damaged.

Lewis Hamilton crashes out around 11am, and the fact that Ferrari F1 teammate Charles Leclerc never got on track in the afternoon was a testament to how the damage was to the SF-23.

Ferrari’s 2023 car had been incredibly hard to drive during its time racing. Both Leclerc and Sainz made multiple complaints about how difficult it was to drive. It did get a bit easier as the season went on, with the Spaniard taking out the Singapore GP in fine style.

It’s not the first time Lewis Hamilton has crashed in testing ahead of a season with a new F1 team. Ahead of his debut with McLaren in 2007, it happened in Valencia. A repeat happened at Jerez in 2013, although that was caused by brake failure.
