The Colombian driver will get another taste of Formula E machinery having completed the Women’s test in Pre Season testing, driving for Maserati alongside Carrie Schreiner. The 31-year-old becomes the second female driver added to the group of rookies alongside Jaguar driver Jamie Chadwick.
A great opportunity awaits
Jeddah acts as another opportunity for Calderon to test the GEN3 Evo car, an invaluable opportunity. This time she will have the chance to work with a different team: Lola Cars.
“I’m very excited to join the Lola Yamaha ABT Team for the Rookie free practice in Jeddah. I feel it is a great opportunity provided by Formula E for drivers who are new to the series.”
“I’ve been impressed with the progress this new team has made so far. That is a testament of the quality of the people behind it. There’s a great atmosphere with everyone pushing in the same direction, something I’ve felt when I’ve been preparing in the simulator.”
The Rookie test will bring together 11 rookies to compete across a 40-minute session at the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix. Each team is required to field a rookie for the test with only two teams yet to confirm their driver.
What next for Calderon?
Having competed in Formula 2, IndyCar and Super Formula, the Columbian driver is far from short of racing experience.
The 32-year-old is currently partecipating in her second season of IMSA Sportscar Championship for Gradient Racing, alongside Lola Yamaha chairman Till Bechtolsheimer.
Calderon’s CV is very impressive, including Formula 1 experience as test driver for Sauber from 2018 to 2021, as well as becoming the first woman in Formula 3 to lead a race and winning a race in teh Florida Winter Series.
Her feedback will prove critical for the German-based team ahead of the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix with the team sitting last in the standings, the only outfit not to have scored any points this season.
