After his turbulent 2023 season with PHM Racing by Charouz came to a premature end after a disappointing four-race run, Piotr Wiśnicki returned to Formula 3, this time competing with Rodin Motorsport. Unfortunately, the Polish driver suffered a difficult 2024 F3 season, failing to finish outside the bottom 10 on all but three occasions. He scored points on only one of these occasions.
Silverstone was highlight of Wiśnicki’s 2024 F3 season
After failing to score points in the first six rounds of the season, Wiśnicki was not a favourite to score points in the 2024 Silverstone F3 round. Unfortunately, the Polish driver’s weekend did not get off to a good start. He qualified last, setting a time that was more than 2.8 seconds slower than that of Luke Browning, who set an impressive top time of 1:44.992. After such a poor session, a not-unusual occurrence for the Polish driver, Wiśnicki found himself starting at the back of the grid for both the sprint and feature races.
This weekend, however, would not be more of the same for the Rodin Motorsport driver. In the sprint race, he made his way up the field, despite disruptions caused by collisions between his opponents. He finished P14, earning his first finish in the top half of the timesheet. However, this would not be the highlight of the Polish driver’s season.
Instead, his best performance came just one day later in the feature race when, after a bold decision to stay on dry tyres despite the damp weather, he found himself in fifth place into the closing laps. Despite the immense pressure of running the alternative tyre strategy as more successful drivers trying to claw their way back up to a points position, Wiśnicki drove confidently and eventually crossed the line fifth. This P5 finish earned Wiśnicki the first points of the 2024 F3 season, and indeed the first of his F3 career.
A disappointing end to 2024
Unfortunately, Wiśnicki would return to less-than-stellar form in Hungary and these 10 points from Silverstone would be his only points of the season. After retirements in both the sprint and feature races in Monza, he ended the season 23rd in the championship, ahead of his teammate Joseph Loake, but 11 places and 57 points behind Callum Voisin.
Out of seat for 2025?
After a disappointing and unimpressive season, Wiśnicki’s future in motorsport is uncertain. With only two seats, both with AIX Racing, yet to be confirmed for the 2025 F3 season, the Polish driver may be without a place in F3. What is certain is that he will not be racing with Rodin Motorsport as the New Zealand team, based in the United Kingdom, will replace Wiśnicki and Loake with Louis Sharp and Roman Bilinski.
