Mari Boya struggled through his rookie F3 season, but coming into his second year with a team change he was ready to show his capabilities.

For Boya, 2024 was another season of trials and tribulations, leaving him wanting more from another disappointing season. Finishing in 15th in the standings Boya is determined to prove himself further in the series, choosing to take part in a third season in the series.

A consistent start

Boya began the season in the points, with an eighth-place finish in the Bahrain sprint race. However, his luck turned in the feature race and when he made contact with Laurens van Hoepen, taking him out of the points.

Despite the bad luck in the Bahrain feature race, Boya spent the next 6 out of seven races firmly within the points. The only occasion that he missed out on adding points to his tally was in the Imola sprint race. After qualifying 27th he had a collision that took him out of the race.

His highlight of the season came just before the tide turned for him in Barcelona. In Barcelona, Mari Boya qualified tenth, which would put him in third for the sprint race. Boya fought his way to the front and held off Alex Dunne to take his maiden F3 victory and his second podium in the series.

Downward spiral

Unfortunately for Boya, the top step in Barcelona was the high of the season. Immediately following the impressive victory he suffered a six-race streak with no points. But it got worse for Boya.

In the final 10 races, he only scored points in two races and they were both bottom of the points appearances. In both Spa and Monza, he suffered retirements in the feature races squashing any chance the Spaniard had at points.

He made the most of the opportunities he was given but struggled in large part to keep himself in the competitive battle at the front.

With many of Boya’s colleagues making the move up to Formula 2 next year it presents the Spaniard with an opportunity to show his years of experience and get himself into the championship battle.

He will remain with Campos alongside two other returning drivers Nikola Tsolov and Tsanapol Inthraphuvasak which will create an interesting dynamic between experienced drivers.

Boya will no doubt hope to improve beyond 15th in the standings and recreate his maiden victory in 2025.
