Romain Grosjean is optimistic about his Andretti car’s performance for the rest of the NTT IndyCar Series.
The Frenchman performed admirably at Long Beach finishing second as Andretti finished one-two-four.
Grosjean said: “I think we’re going to be strong everywhere.
“We’re coming in Barber in two weeks. I’m not worried. I’m going to have a fast car and get a chance there. Could win Barber, could win Indy.
“At Indy 500, try to catch Ganassi. Did such a good job last year. We’re improving a lot, as well.”
The former Formula 1 driver has had a mixed start to the season with a potential victory and podium finish ending in non finishes in St. Pete and Texas.
Grosjean’s second place finish at Long Beach has moved him up to P7 in the championship.
He also had a sizeable 188 seconds of push to pass remaining as he saved too much fuel on the streets of Long Beach.
The Andretti driver lamented his inability to use his spare push to pass and attack his team mate Kyle Kirkwood in the closing laps.
“Because the way the race turned out, I have to save a lot of fuel on the last stint.
“I had 188 second of push to pass left, but I was not allowed to use it. For once I saved too much (fuel).
“It sucks. I just wanted to push the button and I wasn’t allowed to.
“Marcus [Ericsson] was driving fast at the end of the race. We did a tremendous job. Honda did amazing.
“One, two, three, four, five [for Honda]. We have to note that. Bits and pieces, we’re getting there.”
Grosjean said the fuel saving was the main factor behind him not taking victory at Long Beach.
“I would lie if I said I wouldn’t have loved to be on the top step of the podium today, and I thought I had a chance.
“Just the way the race turned out, the fuel situation was, it wasn’t possible.”
