The Singapore Grand Prix gave us an unforgettable spectacle with its night race and the last laps making both team members and fans nervous. It was a great performance by many drivers, Sainz, Norris, Piastri, Russell (until he crashed) and not to leave behind the rookie who has impressed everyone with his skills: Liam Lawson.
The New Zealander driver has already raced three Grand Prix replacing Daniel Ricciardo (who had a fractured metacarpal) and scored his first points in Formula 1 in a complex race at the Marina Bay circuit.
Despite not being able to compete, the Australian driver traveled to Singapore for engineering purposes and Lawson commented that having the Perth native as support was very positive for him:
“Obviously it’s very positive to have him here. He has a lot of experience and experience helps the team. It’s been good for me too since I’ve been back. I think it’s very positive to have someone like him.”

Initially, it was expected that the veteran could return to the car in the Japanese Grand Prix. However, this will not be possible because Ricciardo has not yet recovered from his injury, and this gives an opportunity to the 21-year-old to demonstrate his talent at a circuit he has already raced at in Super Formula this year. i
In the few races in which he participated, he has delivered better results than Nyck De Vries, which makes teams look at him and consider him a serious option to sign, although the Kiwi denied being focused on that:
“I don’t know, honestly. For me, it’s not what I’m focused on. I’m focused on maximizing every session this season that I have. Then I’ll look back and think I’ve done everything I can. But that’s for them to decide, not me.”
The driver of car number 40 on the grid mentioned that he was very excited to race at Suzuka as it is a circuit he knows well from his participation in Super Formula:
“I’d love to drive there. Obviously I have a bit of experience. I know it a bit better than Singapore so it would be great to drive there.”
After a series of unexpected events at AlphaTauri in which the Faenza-based team had failed to get the AT04 up to speed and had gone through two drivers in one season, Liam Lawson has shown that him and the car are capable of delivering much more than what has been seen this year at the Tost-led team.
