Despite a difficult start to the Sakhir F3 Round Feature Race at the Bahrain GP, Trident’s Rafael Câmara recovered well to reclaim the lead from a similarly strong Callum Voisin of Rodin Motorsport. Meanwhile, MP Motorsport’s Tim Tramnitz recovered well after “one of the best races [of his life]” to claim P3, despite starting P13, and facing fierce competition from the likes of Tuukka Taponen and Nikola Tsolov. Birthday boy, Campos Racing’s Mari Boya, had a similarly impressive race, recovering to P8 after starting P20.

Câmara starting from pole position

For the second time in the 2025 season, Trident’s Rafael Câmara will start an F3 Feature Race from the front of the grid, having claimed pole position after a strong performance on Friday’s Sakhir F3 Round Qualifying session at the Bahrain GP. Rodin Motorsport’s Callum Voisin joined the Brazilian driver on the front row, while Trident teammate Charlie Wurz started third alongside DAMS Lucas Oil’s Christian Ho.

MP Motorsport’s Bruno del Pino (P5) and ART Grand Prix’s Tuukka Taponen (P6) started the race from Row 3, with MP Motorsport’s Noah Strømsted (P7) and Campos Racing’s Nikola Tsolov (P8), Saturday’s Sprint Race winner on Row 4. On Row 5, MP Motorsport’s Alessandro Giusti (P9) and AIX Racing newcomer, Freddie Slater (P10), who scored his first F3 points after an exceptional Saturday debut race, rounded out the top 10.

A tough battle for points ahead

Hitech TGR’s Martinius Stenshorne, who had a disappointing Sprint Race, started P11, alongside teammate Joshua Dufek in P12, and ahead of MP Motorsport’s Tim Tramnitz (P13) who lined up alongside PREMA Racing’s Noel León (P14) on Row 7. AIX Racing’s Javier Sagrera (P15) and PREMA Racing’s Brando Badoer (P16) started from Row 8, ahead of Campos Racing’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (P17) and Rodin Motorsport’s Louis Sharp (P18) on Row 9 and Rodin Motorsport’s Roman Biliński (P19) and Campos Racing’s Mari Boya (P20) on Row 10

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Théophile Naël (P21) and ART Grand Prix’s James Wharton (P22) started on Row 11, with DAM Lucas Oil’s Nicola Lacorte behind in P23, alongside ART Grand Prix’s Laurens van Hoepen in P24. Hitech TGR’s Gerrard Xie started some way off his teammates in P25, with PREMA Racing’s Ugo Ugochukwu in P26. DAMS Lucas Oil’s Matías Zagazeta started on the penultimate row, alongside Van Amersfoort Racing’s Ivan Domingues, and ahead of AIX Racing’s Nicola Marinangeli and Domingues’ Van Amersfoort Racing’s Santiago Ramos.

Voisin claims early lead into Turn 1

With five minutes until the top of the hour, Câmara led the pack around the Sakhir International Circuit on the formation lap. He returned to the starting grid, as the drivers took their places on the starting grid. Câmara dominated the Feature Race in Melbourne, holding on to the lead despite the tricky wet conditions. To do so again in Bahrain would keep clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings.

As the lights went out, Voisin had a strong start off the line, claiming the lead from Câmara, as the Brazilian driver came under pressure from teammate Wurz. This was far from the start that the Brazilian driver would have wanted, and though he challenged Voisin to reclaim the lead, he soon fell away from the new race leader of the F3 Feature Race of the Bahrain GP weekend.

At the back of the grid, Sharp stalled on the grid at the start. Though he managed to continue the race, he fell to the back of the grid, and was soon joined by Domingues, Slater and Zagazeta, who came together on Lap 2. While the three drivers initially seemed to be continuing the race, Zagazeta and Slater returned to the pit lane. Zagazeta returned to the track, but Slater retired.

On Lap 3, Câmara claimed the lead of the Sakhir Round Feature Race into Turn 1, but lost it again to Voisin out of Turn 4. The two, joined by Wurz, continued to battle for the lead, while Taponen—having taken P4 from Ho—looked poised to join the fight. A brief Virtual Safety Car was deployed, but it was quickly withdrawn, returning the race to green flag conditions.

Câmara in the lead after fierce battle with Voisin

On Lap 5 of the F3 Feature Race of the Bahrain GP, Câmara again claimed the lead from Voisin after getting past the Rodin Motorsport driver at the inside of Turn 1. Despite a brief challenge, Voisin found himself unable to fight back in Turn 4 and settled into P2, and Taponen and Wurz battled for P3.

Though Trident instructed Wurz to get past Voisin, he instead found himself losing time as the fight for P3 intensified. Wurz, having lost DRS to Voisin, inevitably lost his battle with Taponen, as the Ferrari Driver Academy member claimed P3, and Ho and Tramnitz battled for P6. After some switching between the two, Tramnitz claimed P6.

By Lap 9, Voisin had fallen out of DRS range to Câmara, who quickly built up an impressive gap to his rivals. A bit further back, Tsolov, who started in P10, claimed P7 after overtaking Ho as they exited Sector 1.

Boya up to P11 after P20 start

Birthday boy Boya also enjoyed a strong start to the race. On Lap 11, he claimed P11 from Badoer into Turn 1. Having started from P20, this was an impressive recovery from the Spaniard, who suffered a difficult start to the weekend. He held on to his place just outside the points into the second half of the race.

With Câmara having built up a significant gap to his rivals and Vosin also pulling away from Taponen in P3, the battle for the final podium position heated up. The Finn came under heavy pressure from Wurz, while Tramnitz, who had climbed to P5 after overtaking Strømsted out of Turn 4 on Lap 12 of the F3 Feature Race at the Bahrain GP, joined the battle as well.

Tsolov up to P5 by Lap 19 while Boya gets into the points

On Lap 15, into Turn 1, Tsolov claimed P6 from Strømsted, with the Bulgarian driver quickly narrowing the gap to Tramnitz. Having won Saturday’s Sprint Race, the Bulgarian driver had been in good form throughout the weekend, and appeared hungry for another podium, as he chased the front runners.

On Lap 17, Wurz, now out of DRS to Taponen, fell to P5, as Tramnitz claimed P4. A battle soon followed between Wurz, now in P5, and Tsolov in P6, but Wurz held on despite the fierce challenge. Tsolov then came under pressure from Strømsted, but defended well to keep his position.

On Lap 19, however, Tsolov had a great exit out of Turn 1 to claim P5 from Wurz. Ahead of them, Tramnitz got past Taponen to claim P3, as Wurz and  Strømsted battled for P6. Meanwhile, Boya, having started in P20, overtook del Pino to claim the final points position.

Wurz falling away on penultimate lap

On Lap 21, Strømsted used DRS to pass teammate Wurz down to Turn 1, who then lost another position to Giusti down around the outside of Turn 4. Wurz then lost another two places to Ho and Boya, and fell to P11, outside of the points, after a move by del Pinto. Up ahead, Boya got past Ho to claim P8.

With only a few corners left, Tsolov battled Taponen for P4, as Câmara claimed the win, ahead of Voisin in P2 and Tramnitz in P3. For Câmara, his season F3 Feature Race win, this time at the Bahrain GP, marked the continuation of his impressive form in the 2025 season.
