Irish driver Jonathan Browne has confirmed his exit from the Chip Ganassi Racing squad following a single race with the team in Indy NXT.
Pit Debrief had the opportunity to interview the 24-year-old ahead of the season as he explained his move to CGR from HMD Motorsports over the winter, as well as his hopes and expectations for the season ahead. It had started well for the Irishman as he finished a very solid P7 as CGR returned to the category for the first time in almost two decades.
The writing looked to be on the wall already last week when Bryce Aron stepped in to replace him as Indy NXT teams tested at Mid-Ohio sports course.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Browne explained on his social media channels that he has had to give up his Chip Ganassi Racing Indy NXT seat for financial reasons.
“A tough update to give.
“Firstly I’d like to thank everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing. I entered this team only a few months ago and they are the best organisation that I have had the pleasure of working with. The work and support they have given me so far is incredible.
“Unfortunately due to funding issues I will not be driving for the foreseeable. This news came unexpectedly but I’d like to thank my sponsors and everyone who has contributed to my journey so far.
“As of right now I am working hard to get back in a car as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone for the support.”
The team confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Bryce Aron will replace the Irishman. He will be alongside Niels Koolen from this weekend.
