Aston Martin’s season has gotten off to a fantastic start, 3 podiums in 3 races and lying 2nd in the championship is in huge contrast to their fortunes last year.
When asked the question about Stroll performance at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park, Krack responded in ‘positive form’. He highlights how some procedural changes in qualifying could help Stroll.
“It was quite positive, also he was very close in qualifying yesterday. I think had he another set of tyres he would have been maybe even more forward but these are decisions we said we are going to make. We will not like to take too much risk into Q1 and Q2 because it’s too easy to try and be smart and have a set of tyres saved but you can not use it anymore because you are out.”
Having an extra set for Q3 might just be what Stroll needs but the approach for Aston Martin and Krack is to be ultra-conservative and progress through the first two sections of qualifying without risk of elimination given how a couple of tenths can make a big difference at the moment.
“So we said together at the beginning of the year, we take a conservative approach to start the year to build confidence in the team, in the car and everything and I think it was the right decision.”

When speaking about the two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, Krack was in a joking mood as to their achievements of 3 podiums.
“No, he should have won all three [joking]. It’s fantastic. If I was asked before if someone tells you you will have three podiums after the first three races I would have not believed it either.”
Krack goes on to highlight the level of determination and consistency from the Spaniard.
“But it shows also what a champion we have there. He’s just incredible, [and so is] his consistency. If you look at all the sessions so far throughout the year he has always been there, in every session, in every FP1, FP2, he’s always up there and pushes the maximum all the time.”
With a four-week break between Australia and Azerbaijan, the development war will be well and truly underway. Upgrades will be the talking point when we reach Baku. Eyes will be on all teams, not least Krack’s Aston Martin to see if they can close the gap to the fast Red Bulls ahead.
