FP3 started with a rather different weather to yesterday’s race conditions. It’s cloudy in Berlin today, and it rained last night.
Rene Rast’s Neom McLaren stopped at Turn 4 while in his first lap out, with the German driver having to do a power restart procedure in order to try and move his car.
Five minutes into the session, Robn Frijns is leading, followed by Andre Lotterer and Oliver Rowland for Mahindra. However, a red flag is issued shortly after in order to remove Rast’s car.
The session restarted with 20 minutes to go, but 8 drivers decided to momentarily stay in the pits, including yesterday’s race winner Mitch Evans. However, shortly after everyone was back out on track.
After another round of attempts, in the lead is Andre Lotterer, who signed yesterday’s fastest lap during the race, in 1:17.471, followed by Oliver Rowland and Nico Muller. However, Frijns returns in the lead with a 1:16.794 shortly after. Will this be the chance for the Dutch driver to score his and his team’s first points of the season? The wet conditions have played in his favor in past Formula E races already.
Jake Dennis is appearing fast today as well, sitting in P3 just behind his Avalanche Andretti teammate. Dennis had a 5 seconds penalty for crashing into Da Costa during yesterday’s round, one of three drivers pealised in the race. After yet another pointless race, he lost his P2 in the drivers’championship, and will definitely try to recover some positions later.
Dan Ticktum almost hit the wall drifting wide off track, but he managed to avoid car damage. The NIO looks rather unstable this morning on wet track conditions, with Sergio Sette Camara steering off as well.
In the final 5 minutes, the session leader is Nico Muller, followed by Andre Lotterer and Robin Frijns. This trio has shown an impressive pace in the new conditions so far, will it transfer to the race later today?
The last laps showed also good laps put in by yesterday’s top drivers, with race winner Mitch Evans briefly going on top of the timesheet and pole sitter Sebastian Buemi in P3. The track is beginning to dry out, allowing to significantly improve their perfomances.
At the chequered flag, session faster is once again Jaguar’s Mitch Evans, who might be looking for yet another double win in two days just like he had done in 2022 in Rome. The only driver in the 1:15s is followed by Andre Lotterer, fastest man during the race, and momentarily race leader Dan Ticktum.
The top 10 is rounded off with both ABT Cupra and Envision drivers, followed by Dennis, Da Costa and Vergne.
