On March 17th, Meyer Shank Racing and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced that four-time and two-time Indy 500 champions Helio Castroneves and Takuma Sato would be returning to try and make more history in 2026.

Conor Daly (Dreyer & Reinbold Racing), Jack Harvey (Dreyer & Reinbold Racing), Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014 winner who will be driving for Arrow McLaren) and Ed Carpenter (ECR) are also scheduled to make one-off appearances at this year’s event. Who will drive in a fourth car for Andretti is expected to be announced at some stage in the near future; current F2 driver Colton Herta is understood to be in the mix.

Four-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou heads into the race this year as the defending winner. His first victory on an oval came in the greatest way possible.

Alongside the aforementioned drivers who have won the Indy 500, Josef Newgraden, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Marcus Ericsson and Alex Rossi have also tasted glory in the biggest IndyCar race.
