It’s the thirteenth round of the Formula One season at Hungary as Alex Albon qualified P13, alongside his teammate Logan Sargeant in P14.

Albon set a time of 1.18.378 on his first flying lap in Q1, following it up with a 1.18.129 on his second lap, placing him P11.

On his last flying lap, the Thai did a 1.17.280, placing him P5 on the Q1 timing sheets.

The Thai’s first flying lap in Q2 saw him in P13 with a 1.17.103. His second attempt was a 1.16.429, which was not enough for the Williams driver to get out of the drop zone, confirming his seventh row start for the race.

Albon talked about how his lap was disrupted by traffic and dirty air, which he believes cost him a spot in Q3.

“It was 2 tenths in dirty air in sector 2, for sure. So that’s Q3.”

Albon also mentioned the poor planning on their side, going out too early that led to the traffic in sector 2. He says it could have been easily avoided for Williams as they have the upper hand of having their garages towards the end of the pit lane.

It had looked really good for Williams heading into the session. Albon was 9th in FP2, and he went even better in FP3 as he finished a very promising P7.

“We also went out too early, so we got a lot of traffic in sector 2. Turns 5, 6, 7. We’ve been good there all weekend. It was the place where we were, so it’s frustrating.

“Frustrating, because we had a better car in there.

“I think we expected more cars to go out at the same time we did. I think as we are more towards the end of the pit lane, we have the luxury to hold on, and wait until everyone else goes out.

“Yeah, and I think we could have done a better job.”
