Jack Doohan was elevated to a full-time seat at Alpine for the 2025 F1 season after demonstrating outstanding performances in the junior categories.

Doohan secured P2 in the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship, behind current Indy NXT driver Dennis Hauger.

The Australian moved up to Formula 2 and finished P3 in 2023, securing three wins, five podiums, two pole positions, and two fastest laps.

His performances and success in the junior categories led to Doohan experiencing growing support from fans.

The Australian made headlines when he took over Esteban Ocon’s seat for the final race of the 2024 F1 season in Abu Dhabi, before becoming part of the main line-up for 2025.

New level of support after joining the F1 grid

In his print media session ahead of the Chinese GP weekend, Doohan shared that the support is “much bigger” now that he is part of the main F1 grid.

The Alpine driver, who doesn’t view himself differently from anyone else, says that it’s both “strange” and “cool” to experience the new level of attention from fans.

“Yeah, certainly. For sure, it’s much bigger when you’re actually one of the main 20.

“And it’s not necessarily difficult for me, but I definitely am.

“It’s a new feeling as well because I really like staying super down-to-earth and grounded and not really thinking that I’m anything more than anyone else.

“So, it is a little bit strange because I don’t feel that way at all.

“But it’s really cool.”

Doohan’s exposure to fan support from a very young age

Being the son of motorcycle legend and five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan has helped the Alpine driver deal with the growing attention that comes with being an F1 driver.

From a very young age, fan support and reactions greeted the Queensland driver, and he eventually grew accustomed to it.

“Yeah, exactly.

“Growing up and seeing these random people asking for my dad’s photo, not knowing why.

“So, I was acclimatized to it from a young age.”
