A new Team Principal for Haas, with Guenther Steiner leaving the paddock after more than 20 years, a new name for AlphaTauri and a full rebranding – in neon green – for Sauber: after a not-so-quiet winter break, a new season is about to begin for Formula 1.
Track action starts one day earlier this week in Bahrain for a Grand Prix that will take place on a Saturday.
And what better time to wonder about what will be?
Here at Pit Debrief we joined Formula Fantasy to try and guess how this year’s championship will go down. An application made by fans that blends all the basics of a classic fantasy game with a few twists.
So let’s indeed start from the basics.
At the start of the game you are awarded 1000 FantaCoins – your very own budget cup – to form a line up of 5 drivers and one scuderia.
Every point scored by your captain is worth double and if you are a good Team Principal the coins you save turn into FantaPoints that can later on be converted into Amazon vouchers.
Prizes in points are awarded to the top 3 finishers, but also to the top 5 at the end of each race and if you join the “Pit Defrief” league, an extra surprise will be waiting for the winner at the end of the championship, a gadget from your favorite F1 team picked by us.
But let’s take a look at how points are awarded and what we should look out for.
Yes, you read that right, we also had to look twice, if one of your drivers starts at the back of the grid or is the last to cross the chequered flag your team will be awarded 5 points.
You can also earn up to 11 FantaPoints if you manage to predict the top 3 finishers in the “Guess the Podium” challenge, just don’t forget to submit your picks within 48 hours before lights out.
The pecking order is indeed important, but apart from sitting in the pit wall – of your living room – hoping your drivers are quick enough to get to the top of the grid, you can challenge yourself by taking part in the FantaQuiz: one question every day that will test out your F1 knowledge and help you climb up the order in the Battle Royal ranking.
If your driver is World Champion you get an extra 100 points but if he ends up DNFing you lose 10 points.
To learn more about the game and shape your strategy you can read all the details in the complete regulations here.
Our team already made their choices and if you want to get an idea from the hints we could take from pre-season testing you can have a look at our predictions ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, whether you want to join our league or create one of your own.
