A controversial and chaotic Australian Grand Prix couldn’t have concluded much better for the Aston Martin team. Fernando Alonso collects his second podium of the season. Meanwhile, Stroll’s return to form looks to be elevating the team, finishing two out of the last three races in the points.
Multiple red flags and a multi-car pileup on the final lap meant Aston Martin finished 3rd and 4th. They now head into Baku with 65 points, currently nine points ahead of Mercedes who are in 3rd and 39 points ahead of Ferrari in 4th.
Here’s what points finisher Lance Stroll had to say about his stellar result: “I think we should be pleased with the result we’ve come away with today.
“It (the race) was a heavily disrupted race with red flags and a few big incidents, and neither Fernando nor I managed to stay clear of the drama.”
Due to the disruptive manner of the race the stewards had a handful of issues to deal with. One such issue being Stroll’s venture into the gravel before the second red flag was waved where he lost his original position. Later, the stewards awarded Stroll his position before the restart which meant he avoided most of the carnage that unfolded after the restart.
Stroll adds: “Thankfully, the red flag had been waved before that point and I was able to retake my position for the final restart.
“This sport is a rollercoaster of emotions sometimes! Overall, we’ve come away from a chaotic race with a solid haul of points for the team.
“To be second in the constructor’s championship after three races is very positive.”

Team Principal, Mike Krack echoed Stroll’s praise: “What a race! There was just about everything you could imagine this afternoon.
“To come away with third and fourth place – and 27 points – is a brilliant result for the team.”
