Campos Racing’s Mari Boya topped the morning session timesheets, and teammate Oliver Goethe led the afternoon, as they dominated the second day of the in-season Formula 3 test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Morning Session
The day began with an intense flurry of activity, with Trident’s Leonardo Fornaroli initially setting the pace with a time of 1:28.544. This brisk start saw him leading the early runs, closely followed by Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Luke Browning, who was just a tenth behind.
As the session progressed, Fornaroli solidified his strong performance by becoming the first driver of the week to break into the 1:26s, further establishing a competitive target. Browning remained his closest contender, narrowing the gap to a mere 0.013 seconds on subsequent runs.
However, the dynamic shifted dramatically in the final 90 minutes when Campos Racing’s Boya posted a strong lap of 1:26.646. This effort placed him ahead of Fornaroli by 0.033 seconds and maintained the lead for the rest of the session.
The morning ended with the top three—Boya, Fornaroli, and Browning—covered by just 0.046 seconds.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon saw a focus on longer runs, with Van Amersfoort Racing’s Sophia Floersch initially leading with a time of 1:31.957, closely followed by her teammates Noel León and Tommy Smith.
As the track activity increased, Campos Racing strategically deployed its drivers onto a less congested track. Goethe swiftly moved to the top with a lap of 1:30.160, with teammate Boya just 0.1 seconds behind.
MP Motorsport’s Alex Dunne soon took the spotlight with a new best-of 1:29.131, leading a brief period where he was followed by his teammates Tim Tramnitz and Kacper Sztuka.
In the session’s final 45 minutes, Tramnitz made a significant push to record a time of 1:28.275, placing him ahead of Hitech’s Martinius Stenshorne. However, the day ultimately belonged to Campos, with Goethe making a late surge to the front with a lap of 1:28.213, ensuring a Campos clean sweep and narrowly edging out his rivals.
Reflecting on the day’s achievements, Boya expressed pride in his team’s performance and readiness to compete at the forefront, stating, “Day two was really good as well as day one. The track is improving a lot compared to yesterday, but I am really happy about the job we are doing, and I am really proud of the team. We are ready to fight at the front.”
He continued, “We are working together with the engineers, and I think we are doing a good job. I feel confident with the car and all the time we are out on track we are on top or close to the top. This gives me a lot of confidence for Imola especially as it’s the next event.”
As testing concluded on the second day, Campos Racing demonstrated its strength with top times from Mari Boya and Oliver Goethe. Their performance sets a high standard for the competition as the teams prepare for another day of testing. The track reopens today at 09:00 local time, with each team keen to improve their results.
