PREMA Racing’s Mari Boya is ready to hit the track as the 2026 F2 season gets underway in Melbourne. The Spaniard takes the step up to Formula 2 following a successful year of racing in 2025, finishing 3rd in the F3 Drivers’ Standings and 2nd at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. After a two-year run with Campos Racing, Boya joins the Italian outfit aiming to replicate and build on the success he achieved in 2025.

Last year, as the Spaniard began delivering consistent results, Aston Martin welcomed the 21 year-old into its Driver Academy, making him the first member of the team’s junior programme. The 2025 F3 season drew to a conclusion in September, but Boya remained active throughout the off-season. With the opening round set to get underway this weekend, the Spaniard is eager to return to racing after a long break.

Longer races presents greater opportunities to make an impact

In Aston Martin’s Driver Academy Race Preview, Boya said: “I’m really excited to start the new season as it feels like a long time since I was on track. I’ve been working on myself a lot this winter to prepare, and I feel ready to start in Formula 2 which is a new category for me.”

Like his fellow rookies, Boya will need to adapt to new elements of a F2 race weekend that weren’t mandatory in F3, such as pitstops. Nevertheless, the 21 year-old remains optimistic about the step up and feels ready to take on the season ahead with PREMA Racing in his first full-year with Aston Martin’s support and guidance.

“I feel it suits my driving style better with the races being longer and that I have more opportunities to make a difference on track. I’m eager to hit the track in Melbourne and start a full season with Aston Martin Aramco as part of their driver academy.”

At PREMA Racing, Boya will partner returning driver Sebastián Montoya, who begins his second campaign with the team.
