Two very talented race car drivers will be joining Formula E’s first ever Women’s Testing session set to take place in November at Valencia, as Maserati AMG has finally unveiled its lineup for the upcoming day.

Both of them have had already the opportunity to test out a Formula E car in the past, but it’ll be the first time behind the wheel of a Gen3 Evo for Tatiana Calderon and Carrie Schreiner.

Calderon has a vast racing experience of both sports cars and single seaters achieved in multiple continents, having competed in categories such as IndyCar, Super Formula, Formula 2 and WEC. She is a pioneer for women in motorsport, having become the first woman to lead a Formula 3 European Championship race as well as the first to score a podium in the British Formula 3 International Series.

Development and test driver for the former Sauber Formula 1 team, Calderon was extremely pleased with the chance to test a Formula E car again, as she said:

“I’m really excited to join Maserati MSG Racing and I’m already enjoying working with some very familiar faces that I have worked with previously. I drove the GEN2 car but the GEN3 Evo is a very different experience, and the evolution of the car from Season 10 (GEN3) to Season 11 (GEN3 Evo) makes a significant difference from a performance perspective.”

The Colombian driver is thankful for the opportunity to showcase her talent and can’t wait to make the most out of it:

“Testing time in Formula E is so limited so each session has critical importance so I want to do the best possible job for the team in Valencia to help them prepare for the season ahead. With one eye on the future, I also want to make the very most of this opportunity to show the team what I can do.”

“I’m very proud that the team has shown this faith and trust in me and I can’t wait to get started in Valencia,”  she concluded.

She will team up with F1 Academy driver Carrie Schreiner. The German driver has competed in the single seaters championship in both the 2023 and the 2024 seasons, achieving a race win in Zandvoort with ART in her first season and switching to Campos Racing while gaining Sauber’s support in her latter.

Schreiner has extensive endurance experience as well, having competed in the Nürburgring Endurance series and the Italian Gt Championship, and achieving a class win at the 2021 edition of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

This test is an important opportunity for women drivers to gain visibility in the world of Formula E and I’m proud to have been selected by Maserati MSG Racing to take part in the Valencia test,” said the young driver, excited to get back behind the wheel of an electrical challenger.

Just like her future teammate, she is ready to give all she has to assist the Italian team in the session.

“Driving a Formula E car is a unique and challenging experience, the car handles unlike any other and to make the most of the test, I need to adapt and prepare as best as I can. After a successful seat fit and an intense sim session, I feel ready for the big day and I’m looking forward to showing the team what I can do.”

Maserati as a team prides itself in favouring the cause of women in motorsport since its beginnings, having fielded the first ever female driver who has qualified for and raced in Formula 1.

Team Principal Cyril Blais highlighted the importance of the test as an action to promote diversity in motorsport, while also reminding everyone that there are still many steps to make in order to achieve equity:

The all-women test in Valencia is a pivotal moment for Formula E, providing a crucialopportunity for all the racing drivers involved to showcase their talent. Frankly speaking though, we shouldn’t need initiatives like this, but it’s an unfortunate fact that women remain under-represented across the board in motorsport.”

“Without doubt, there is a problem with connecting talent with opportunity, and we’re proud to support initiatives like this that address the issue and provide a credible platform for women to show their talent both on and off the racetrack. Both Tatiana and Carrie are very strong and experienced drivers, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to the team,” he concluded praising the latest additions to his team.
