Callum Ilott has been announced to drive the number 6 Arrow McLaren for the IndyCar season opener at St. Pete on Sunday afternoon.
The British driver split with Juncos Hollinger Racing during the off season following a series of issues between driver and team, including at the Indy 500 and Laguna Seca. He secured two P5 finishes last year.
However, a door has opened for him to make a brief return — for now. Newly signed McLaren driver David Malukas is still recovering from injuries he sustained in a mountain biking accident last month. He is expected to be back for the second points race of the season at Laguna Seca in April.
As for the 25-year-old Brit, he heads to Florida on a high after finishing P2 in the opening race of the WEC season in Qatar with teammates Norman Nato and Will Stevens. He is driving for Hertz Team Jota in the Hypercar category.
“Arrow McLaren today announces Callum Ilott to drive the No. 6 Chevrolet in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season opener in the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as David Malukas recovers from surgery on his left wrist.
“The team continues to evaluate options for its driver lineup for future tests and races as David recovers.”
