IndyCar’s Agustín Canapino rates his fellow driver and newly crowned series champion Álex Palou higher than reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen. The Argentine driver had dinner with the Catalan driver for a little Hispanic get-together, and when asked about it in an interview he said the Chip Ganassi driver is at least among the three best drivers in the world at the moment.
“He’s a driver out of this world. For me, the best in the world, in my opinion. And if he’s not the best, top 3 at least.”
The Juncos Hollinger driver argues Palou is more complete than the Dutchman, by virtue of the multiple disciplines an IndyCar driver needs to excel in.
While IndyCar runs at permanent and street circuits like F1, they also compete on multiple ovals during the course of a season, including the Indy500.
“In my opinion he’s a more complete driver than Verstappen. What he [Palou] does in IndyCar, really for me he’s just like an alien,” Canapino explains. “Well, it is a very subjective opinion. He [Verstappen] is also out of this world.
“Don’t criticise me, Verstappen fans, because I also have Verstappen at the top of his game.
“In my opinion, racing in ovals make IndyCar drivers different. Therefore, a driver that makes a difference in every kind of circuits, makes this driver out of this world,” Canapino concludes.
