Jak Crawford returns for his third season in F2. Crawford will continue with DAMS Lucas Oil for the 2025 F2 season, partnering with Kush Maini, who replaces Juan Manuel Correa.
Crawford enjoyed a successful sophomore F2 in 2024, placing fifth in the drivers’ championship. His second season in F2 started on a high note with a P2 finish at the season opener in Sakhir. The 2024 season also brought him a win at the Barcelona Feature Race. He also made five other podium appearances that season and pulled in a fastest lap.
His success in 2024 followed a similarly impressive 2023 maiden season. In 2023, he had five race wins, four other podium finishes and one pole position. This saw him finish 13th in the drivers’ championship and helped his team Hitech Pulse-Eight in their fight for eighth in the teams’ championship.
Crawford confident ahead of 2025 F2 season
As he enters his third F2 season, Crawford is confident that he will be a championship contender in 2025, despite being only 19 years old. While speaking to the media, including Pit Debrief, the young American justified his confidence as a result of his experience which he believes gives him a small advantage over his rookie rivals.
“Yeah, definitely experience makes [a difference]. It’s, you know, important of course, knowing all the tracks, having past experiences, things that have gone bad and stuff like that. “
“But yeah, it’s true that, you know, since my rookie season. I wouldn’t say I’m like a whole lot faster, you know. I just have more experience. I’m able to, you know, do less mistakes and just be a bit more accurate and up to speed. So yeah, definitely helps to be experienced but it’s, you know, it’s not making a massive difference in terms of pace.“
Crawford aiming for move to F1
With Cadillac set to join the F1 grid in 2026, some have speculated on whether Crawford will be a contender for a seat, with the American team having expressed their desire to have an American driver as part of their 2026 line-up. However, when asked about competing for a seat at Cadillac, Crawford emphasized his focus on his F2 campaign and his commitments with Aston Martin while reaffirming his goal of racing in F1.
“Yeah, at the moment, it’s still very early in the season. Yeah, so I haven’t even turned the lap of F2 yet. So we don’t know. And of course, I have my commitments with Aston this year. So that’s my focus.”
“I would love to race in F1 and F1 is my dream and my goal. So, you know, hopefully, in the future, I hope that that comes about.“
While not focusing on a move to F1, Crawford will continue his journey with the Aston Martin Driver Development program. Through his partnership with Aston Martin, Crawford has been able to improve himself as a driver. He has assisted the team in the simulator and has been able to complete some testing, most recently over the winter break. This experience, Crawford, believes, has helped his preparation for the the 2025 F2 season.
“I’ve been working a lot with Aston in the same seat that I have there. F1 season starting this week, I’ve been testing and so I’ve been doing lots of spin for them the past two months. And it’s in turn helping me prepare as well for my season.“
Crawford to act as Reserve and Development Driver for Andretti FE team
Crawford’s responsibilities with DAMS and with Aston Martin will not be his only for the 2025 season. He will also serve as the Reserve and Development driver for the Andretti Formula E team for the 2024/2025 season and even took part in the Formula E Rookie Free Practice session in Jeddah.
Though not directly helping his preparation for the 2025 F2 season, Crawford described his experience with Andretti as beneficial as his session with them had been “keeping [him] sharp.”
” I’ve been working with Andretti all winter in their sim and doing their reserve driver role and lots of their sims. So I’ve been really busy with that. And I think it’s been really good just to learn from the engineers and it’s been keeping me sharp. “
“You know, I’ve been at some races as well, learning a bit from the drivers. So I think, you know, I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily helped me for F2 driving-wise, but for sure, keeping sharp and understanding the car aspect side of it is definitely helping me this year.“
Crawford hoping to compete in Formula E “at some point”
However, while the American driver has his sights set on F1, Crawford hopes to be able to compete in Formula E at some point in his career. He expressed his passion for the series and stated that he hoped that it could continue to grow and gain recognition.
“Yeah, I definitely have thought about it. And to be honest, Formula E is something I would love to do.”
“Even if I make it to F1 at some point. I still would love to do Formula E at some point in my career. It’s something I really like and something that interests me. So, yeah, I really like the sort of the way they all work.”
“Obviously, it’s still a very new series compared to F1. So the development is quite big in the series. So hopefully it can grow a bit more and get a bit more recognition and, you know, be one of the top motorsports in the world at some point.“
