The London E-Prix was a weekend to forget for Jake Dennis. The 2022/2023 Formula E Champion received three penalties on Saturday and was even shown the black and white flag for dangerous driving. On Sunday, he was involved in a crash with Edoardo Mortara, after which both drivers had to retire the car.
Dennis and Mortara had a little bit of contact, after which both drivers ended up in the wall. After the race, Mortara told Pit Debrief his point of view: “I got sent into the wall, I got forced out into the wall. That broke the suspension, the nose, everything; and I couldn’t do anything. Onto the next one.”
The other party involved in the crash, did not quite agree with that statement. “I don’t really have an opinion”, Dennis said to Pit Debrief after the race. “It was a bit of a strange incident from my side. I’m not too sure how Edo picked up the left front damage. He has obviously hit the outside wall, but from my side, there wasn’t really much contact between us.”
“It obviously took him out of the race. That made him unable to turn, and then he took me out of the race. So yeah, it is a bit of a shame, but nevertheless it is what it is. It would have been difficult to score points anyway, it doesn’t really change that much.”
Right before Dennis and Mortara crashed, there was also some contact between Buemi and Dennis. “That sort of started it all”, the Andretti driver explained. “Buemi tried to put me in the wall, in Turn 2, which I had to avoid, which then made me crash into Edo. So yeah, it was a bit of an odd one.”
Both drivers are set to return on the grid for the upcoming 2024-2025 Formula E season, having been confirmed by Andretti and Mahindra respectively.
