This weekend, Formula E returns to action, with Wehrlein and Da Costa taking part in the FE Miami E-Prix. Porsche have been followed by bad luck in the recent rounds, with Pascal Wehrlein being involved in some incidents – one being his heavy crash in Brazil. The German will compete in Le Mans this year, but remains focused on FE and the upcoming Miami E-Prix.
Two weeks ago, Porsche confirmed Wehrlein as its final driver in the roaster for the No. 4 Porsche Penske. He joins Nick Tandy and former F1 driver Felipe Nasr and already made his prototype debut for the No. 85 privateer Porsche at the 24 hours of Daytona earlier this year.
Wehrlein: “No compromises” despite Le Mans preparations
It’s not been the best start for the world champion, who seeks his first win of the season. With 25 points and only one podium to his name, Wehrlein is 8th in the driver standings. He believes that the pace is there and wants to exchange his bad results for better luck.
“So far I would say that we have the pace, but we haven’t been having any racing luck,” Wehrlein said ahead of the Miami E-Prix this weekend. “Hopefully this will change in Miami. At any rate, we are in good shape after the break from racing.”
For Le Mans, the 30-year-old already had a seat fit and made first simulator runs. However, Wehrlein is fully focused on the challenge in FE and won’t make any compromises.
”I was also able to use the time to prepare for Le Mans. But I’m 100 percent focused on Formula E. We aren’t making any compromises here. I’m looking forward to the coming weeks when I will be putting in a lot of time behind the wheel.”
Porsche wants finally to be rewarded in FE Miami E-Prix
„We fine-tuned our package during the break to build on the pace from the first four races.” Porsche’s Director Factory Motorsport Formula E, Florian Modlinger said ahead of Miami. “We want to continue our previous performance in qualifying and show that we are capable of starting from the front row of the grid in almost every race.”
The end goal is to finally score deserved points to enter the championship fight properly.
”The goal for Miami is to come home from the race with the points that we were denied in the last few races due to rear-end collisions.”
Modlinger adds the track limits factor.”You have to keep an eye on the track limits and the first turn because this is where things could get critical.“
Wehrlein and Porsche are entering FE Miami E-Prix, which is going to be the fifth round of Season 11. Nissan’s Oliver Rowland had some exceptional race pace in Mexico and Jeddah, making him the championship leader. Behind him sits McLaren’s wonder kid Taylor Barnard, 17 points away from the Briton. Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa completes the Top 3 with 39 points.
