Dino Beganovic will be making his official debut in a Formula One session next month in Bahrain, alongside racing in the second race of the Formula Two calendar that weekend with Hitech Grand Prix.

The Swedish Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy driver will also have an FP1 session in his schedule for Friday. He will be getting behind the wheel of Charles Leclerc’s SF-25 for the session.

Beganovic had an impressive Formula 3 season in 2024, finding himself as a title contender throughout the majority of the season. Though he ended the season sixth, he was just 44 points from the title, with four podiums in total, two of which were wins.

He made the jump up to Formula 2 in the final rounds of the 2024 F2 season, achieving an impressive podium in just his second weekend in the series.

He announced he was making the move to Formula 2 full-time for the 2025 season with Hitech. This season also marked the first year since 2020 that the Swede wouldn’t be racing with PREMA.

However, despite speculation after his PREMA departure. Ferrari and the FDA have maintained their commitment to Beganovic with this decision to have him take part in an FP1 session.

2025 FIA Formula One Regulations

This was done in compliance with the new 2025 FIA regulations. The new regulations mandate a Formula One driver to give up his seat to a rookie driver who has participated in less than two Formula One races in their career.

This provides double the amount of track time during a race weekend for these young talents. Before the change, teams only had to run a rookie at least once in each of their cars. This results in a total of four opportunities for teams to run a rookie driver during FP1 sessions.

Adding to the Ferrari legacy

Beganovic has been a part of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy since 2020. His debut session next month will make him the fifth driver from the Scuderia’s Academy to drive a Ferrari in an official session.

The other four drivers include current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and his younger brother Arthur Leclerc, who made his debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As well as Robert Shwartzman, who made his debut at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix and current Haas F1 driver Ollie Bearman, who made his debut at the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old will also be the second Swede to drive for the Maranello outfit. Stefan Johansson is the other. He raced with the Scuderia from 1985-1986, earning a total of 6 podium finishes from his 31 race starts with the team.

Another Swede who raced in Rosso Corsa in a different series is the great Ronnie Peterson. He won races for the team at the wheel of a Ferrari 312P in the seventies, racing in the World Sportscar Championship.

Beganovic’s goal is to eventually make the move up into Formula 1 and taking part in an FP1 session is the first step in that journey for the Swede.
