Ex-Haas race engineer Gary Gannon has joined Aston Martin ahead of the 2025 F1 season. First reported by Motorsport Network, the seasoned engineer has joined the Silverstone-based squad in an as-yet-unspecified engineering role.

Before parting ways with Haas at the end of the 2024 F1 campaign, Gannon served as Nico Hülkenberg’s race engineer from the start of 2023.

Gannon’s arrival at Aston Martin comes on the heels of a major organisational reshuffle. They announced last week that Andy Cowell, who joined the team as the CEO in 2023, would take over as team principal. Meanwhile, Mike Krack, who held the title for the last three years, will assume the newly created position of chief trackside officer.

Ex-Haas engineer Gannon brings a wealth of experience to Aston Martin with Honda past

The end of the 2024 season witnessed the departure of both race engineers from Haas. The next career move of Kevin Magnussen’s former race engineer Mark Slade, who left before last year’s Abu Dhabi GP, has yet to be revealed. Gannon, however, has already acquired a position in the engineering department of the team that Adrian Newey will soon call home.

Gannon’s long-standing career in F1 goes back to 2011. Before his recruitment by Haas, he spent three seasons with the Marussia F1 team until 2013.

After joining Haas in March 2015, Gannon started working with Romain Grosjean ahead of the team’s F1 debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. Following Grosjean’s departure from the American team at the end of 2020, he served as Mick Schumacher’s race engineer for two years.

With Honda making a full-scale return to F1 in 2026 as Aston Martin’s works power unit supplier, Gannon’s past experience could prove to be handy. As his résumé reveals, he spent a decade as a Honda development engineer in CART and ALMS (American Le Mans Series) in the United States early in his career.

Position of Gary Gannon at Aston Martin F1 has yet to be confirmed

As reported, Gannon has started working for Aston Martin this week. However, his position remains a mystery as the team hasn’t announced yet if he will serve as race engineer for Lance Stroll or Fernando Alonso in the upcoming F1 season.

Stroll, the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, has worked with race engineer Ben Mitchell since 2022. Meanwhile, Chris Cronin, who previously held the same role with Sebastian Vettel, has worked with the veteran Spaniard since his arrival at Aston Martin in 2023.
