Q1
Max Verstappen was first out of the pits and logged a 1:06.054 to kick things off, with Sergio Perez just under 0.2s away.
A 1:05.941 from Carlos Sainz saw the Spaniard break the 66s barrier to go fastest. However, that was beaten by 0.040s seconds later by teammate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri managed to slot into that gap as the big guns all selected used softs for their first runs.
Leclerc led Norris, Piastri, Tsunoda, Sainz, Verstappen, Magnussen, Perez, Ricciardo and Hülkenberg with 12 minutes to go. The Mercedes drivers had not set a time.
Russell went quickest on a 1:05.614, with Hamilton going 7th, 0.3s slower than his teammate.
It left Bottas, Sargeant, Alonso, Gasly and Stroll in the bottom five halfway through.
On his second run, Verstappen smashed in a 1:05.336 to go fastest. But once again, Carlos Sainz responded as he pumped in a 1:05.263 to pip the Dutchman by 0.073s. Leclerc slotted into 3rd as both Ferraris switched to new softs. Piastri and Norris climbed into P2 and P4 respectively on their second attempts as McLaren continued to show strong speed.
There was a costly lap for Yuki Tsunoda as he had a lap time deleted, dropping him from 10th to 15th.Alonso [P12], Bottas [P13], Gasly [P14] all improved to get out of the relegation zone ahead of the final runs.
Hamilton, Stroll, Hülkenberg, Sargeant and Guanyu needed to improve to get inside the top 15.
The seven-time World Champion was not massively happy with his car as he eventually moved himself up to P7, safely getting through. RB had a much better time, placing P8 and P9 with Tsunoda and Ricciardo. Kevin Magnussen was the midfield star, however, going P5.
A last gasp lap from Fernando Alonso saw him squeeze through in P15, outpacing Alex Albon by 0.080s.
The Thai, Stroll, Bottas, Sargeant and Guanyu got knocked out. 0.798s covered the 20 cars in an incredibly close session.
Q2
Esteban Ocon set the first time of Q2 as a 1:05.582 saw him outpace Gasly (0.075s) and Sainz (0.163s) initially. However, Charles Leclerc pipped the Frenchman by half a tenth on his used tyres.
On his new tyres, a 1:04.577 from Max Verstappen put him 0.955s clear of Charles Leclerc. Russell (0.491s), Piastri, Norris, Perez, Hamilton were covered by less than two tenths from P2 to P6.
Ricciardo, Tsunoda, Hülkenberg and Leclerc rounded out the top 10 after everyone had put in a time.
Magnussen, Ocon, Alonso, Gasly and Sainz found themselves in the bottom five.
Sainz, Leclerc the two Alpines improved. The Spaniard went 2nd, with Leclerc moving up to 5th. Ocon put himself P9, with Gasly 11th.
Gasly, Tsunoda, Hülkenberg, Magnussen and Alonso needed to improve to make it into Q3 ahead of the final attempts.
Max Verstappen ran again and lowered the benchmark to a 1:04.469 to be fastest in the session by 0.547s from Carlos Sainz and George Russell. Hamilton, Piastri, Norris, Leclerc and Perez made sure all eight drivers from the top four teams got through. 0.128s covered the Spaniard and Mexican.
Nico Hülkenberg pulled a mighty lap out of the bag again as he made it through in P9, ahead of Esteban Ocon.
RB improved significantly from Sprint qualifying as Daniel Ricciardo missed out on Q3 by a mere 0.015s. Magnussen, Gasly, Tsunoda and Alonso got bumped out as well.
Gasly had moved into P12 but lost his lap time due to track limits at turn 6.
Q3
Nico Hülkenberg started the action in Q3 as a 1:06.004 put him fastest on used tyres. Max Verstappen destroyed that as a 1:04.426 saw him beat his Q2 time by 0.043s. Norris was the only driver who got within half a second as he was 0.361s away.
Russell, Leclerc, Piastri, Hamilton, Sainz, Perez, Ocon, Hülkenberg was the rest of the order after the first runs.
The World Champion continued to fly, chipping another 0.112s off his previous attempt as a 1:04.314 put him on pole by over 0.4s. Lando Norris marginally improved to stay P2.
Oscar Piastri had vaulted up to P3 but his lap time for track limits was deleted at turn 6, dropping to P7.
Russell, Sainz, Hamilton, Leclerc, Piastri, Perez, Hülkenberg and Ocon was the order from P3 to P10.
Charles Leclerc had a huge snap at turn 9 on his final run, managing to save it and avoid crashing, although he might have damaged the floor. The Monegasque driver had already visited the gravel with his right hand side tyres at turn 6.
