Williams junior Zak O’Sullivan’s debut F2 season was a short but significant one. He enjoyed a strong campaign, showcasing his talent regularly throughout the season. He earned two wins and several points finishes, putting him in contention for the 2024 F2 title.
O’Sullivan claimed his first F2 win in Monaco. Despite starting 15th, he executed a brilliant race strategy, extending his soft-tyre stint for 40 laps. This helped him secure his maiden F2 victory.
He earned his second win in the Spa-Francorchamps Sprint Race, starting from the reverse-grid pole after qualifying 10th. Despite wet conditions and the race being shortened to just seven laps, he held on to the lead and eventually claimed the win.
An early exit due to financial constraints
Unfortunately, O’Sullivan had to cut his season short due to financial constraints. Ahead of the 2024 Azerbaijan GP weekend, the ART Grand Prix driver announced his withdrawal from the 2024 campaign.
Reflecting on the situation, he stated, “In our sport, there are more factors at play than just the stopwatch. The issue comes down to funding. I won’t be able to complete this F2 season with ART GP.”
A new chapter and looking ahead
Despite this setback, O’Sullivan quickly secured new opportunities. In January, he confirmed that he would compete in the 2025 Super Formula season with Kondo Racing. He also earned a spot in the Formula E Rookie Free Practice session in Jeddah. Additionally, he will work as a simulator driver for Envision Racing.
“I’m very excited to be going to Jeddah to test a Formula E car for the first time. It’s going to be a new challenge for me,” said O’Sullivan.
Although his F2 journey ended earlier than expected, O’Sullivan’s future remains bright as he takes on new challenges in Super Formula and Formula E.
