Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak started from pole position alongside last years Formula 2 (F2) Sprint Race winner, Joshua Dürksen, to see who would claim victory in the 2026 Australian GP Sprint Race. Dürksen made it two consecutive years with the F2 Sprint Race victory at Albert Park.
With the top 10 reversed from yesterday’s Qualifying session, it also saw Goethe and Maini lining up on the second row.
Early drama unfolded on the opening lap as Goethe spun from P3 after riding the kerb, while Varrone also went off track. On Lap 2, Dürksen overtook Inthraphuvasak for the race lead, with van Hoepen dropping down the order following an off-track excursion.
León made his way up to P3, overtaking Maini, while a tight battle raged between Dunne, Câmara, and Stenshorne, with all three trading positions. Stenshorne later received a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
An incident between Herta and Tsolov was noted and will be investigated after the race. Boya crashed into the gravel at Turn 7, prompting a Safety Car as drivers from P15 to P21 headed to the pits for super soft tyres. On the restart, Dürksen established a one-second gap over Inthraphuvasak, while León overtook him to move into P2. Câmara fell down the order during the restart.
Varrone and Shields are set to be investigated post-race for a pit lane infringement.
Meanwhile, Minì delivered a stellar performance, starting from P21 and finishing in P6 by the end of the race.
