The Formula 2 drivers took to the wet track of Monaco as the weather took a turn during the Formula 3 practice session. Enzo Fittipaldi was the first driver to brush the barriers at the Fairmont Hairpin in the opening minutes, while his Van Amersfoort teammate Rafael Villagomez narrowly avoided him.
Victor Martins led the way, improving his time twice from 1:40.531s to a 1:40.200s. Fittipaldi went into deep into turn 1, which briefly brought out the yellow flags, but the Brazilian driver was able to rejoin the track.
The first red flag of the session was brought out after Franco Colapinto hit the wall at La Rascasse.
The session resumed with 21 minutes left, Martins still in the lead with the benchmark time of 1:39.237s, followed by MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger, just 6 seconds behind and Richard Verschoor.
The rain intensified, so drivers had to be cautious. Martins went very deep into Sainte Devote but rejoined after getting turned in the right way. The current championship leader, Zane Maloney, was the next driver to go off track. He was also able to rejoin the track after a hiccup in turn 5.
The weather got worse as thunder started to roar and flashes of lightning could be seen in the hills. The drivers were being good sports while they pushed through.
With just 10 minutes left of the session, Martins, Hauger and Verschoor were still in the top 3. The rain reached its heaviest and while the majority of drivers went to pit, Pepe Martí, Ollie Bearman and Ritomo Miyata stayed out.
The chequered flag signalled the end of the session, with Martins having finished on top. He was followed by Hauger and Verschoor, with Isack Hadjar in fourth and his ART teammate O’Sullivan in fifth.
