Fernando Alonso seeks to improve after underwhelming performance at the last race. He ended his home Grand Prix only seventh, one place behind his team mate Lance Stroll. There is a reason to be optimistic however, as the Silverstone-outfit has brought some updates to Montreal, including a new floor.
“Let’s see, I think it should be a good weekend, but you never know until you hit the track. We also had expectations in Barcelona and we didn’t perform on that race, so yeah, let’s see.”
“We have a couple of new parts in the car as well on this race, so depending on the weather we will try to test them and validate them, and yeah, hopefully we can be a little bit more competitive than Barcelona.”
The updates are part of the journey for Aston Martin and Alonso to better understand the car and further develop the AMR 23. The Spaniard believes his team is going in the right direction and promises more updates going forward.
“[We’re] always trying to improve a little bit. Our car has been a completely new project for Aston Martin, a completely new philosophy, new concept of how the car works. And yeah, we’ve been discovering things on every race this year.”
“I think it is an optimisation of the package, what we try to do and we’ve been constantly bringing new parts to the races. This is another step forward and more to come in the future.”
Team boss and Canadian native Lawrence Stroll has said he would like to see both his cars on the podium. It’s a challenge the two-time world champion is made for, but he couldn’t make any promises yet.
“You never know. But it’s an agressive target for the weekend. We know Lawrence, the ambition of him is super high always, and we will try to make him happy and proud in the home Grand Prix.”
