After the disappointing Miami GP, Scuderia Ferrari is looking for redemption, continuing to work on the compression and development of the SF-23. A development process which, already from Imola, will see the introduction of new important elements, and it will be concluded at the Spanish GP.

It was a negative weekend, the one experienced by Ferrari in Miami. A weekend to which the Scuderia arrived confident of being able to confirm the progress shown in Azerbaijan and being able to confirm themselves as the second force in the field, behind Red Bull.

Expectations which, in fact, were disregarded given that the car appeared slow and difficult to drive, never expressing itself at performance levels comparable to Red Bull and beyond. A weekend which, therefore, thwarted the progress made by the team in understanding and improving the car.

In Florida, in fact, the Ferrari once again showed handling and tyre management problems, with both riders and with both compounds. In fact, both Leclerc and Sainz struggled in making the tires work properly in the 57 laps of the race.

An anomalous behavior, perhaps too much, to be justified simply by the chronic defects of the SF-23 project. Behavior which, during the post-race briefing, was analyzed by the technicians and the causes of which were found in human errors committed during the weekend.

A flop that in Maranello they are determined not to repeat, both by improving the working methods and by continuing to push in the development of the single-seater. Development that, at least according to what is reported by ‘Motorsport.com‘, should change the skin of the SF-23, making it more similar to the RB19.

“Ferrari is embarking on a path that will bring the SF-23 closer to the aerodynamic concepts of Red Bull. […] We are not dealing with developments planned at the beginning of the season, but orientation corrections.”

Development work that started months ago but was strengthened after the first races of the season and which, it must be said, already bore fruit in Miami, where a new floor made its debut.

“On the new floor […] the design of the Venturi channels has been revolutionized: the internal flows are directed in a different way to increase the downforce.”

A floor that was only the first step in a series of innovations that will arrive starting from Imola (where the new rear suspension will also arrive).

“The eagerly awaited rear suspension will make its debut at Imola, which will make it possible to adopt a mechanical set-up more suited to the ground clearance needed to produce downforce.”

After Imola, the latest developments will arrive in Barcelona: new RB19-style sidepods, accompanied by novelties also in the management of the hot gases leaving the car body to maximize the efficiency of the beam wing.
