British motorsport veteran Graeme Lowdon will act as Team Principal of the Cadillac F1 team, as they prepare for their 2026 F1 debut. This announcement follows an “agreement in principle” between TWG Global, General Motors, and F1. Cadillac’s entry will bring the grid to 11 teams for the first time since 2016.
Who is Graeme Lowdon?
The 59-year-old British businessman has had a distinguished career in motorsport, formerly serving as sporting director and CEO of the Virgin/Marussia F1 team until the end of the 2015 F1 season. Following his F1 stint, Lowdon remained in motorsport, pursuing opportunities in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Manor.
Lowdon feels “truly honoured” following appointment as Cadillac Team Principal
In a press release, Lowdon expressed his honour at being appointed Team Principal. He also thanked those involved in making the decision for their trust in him.
“I am truly honored to be appointed as the Team Principal of this exciting new team and I would like to thank everyone involved for placing their trust in me.”
He described F1 as “the greatest team sport” and described Cadillac as a ream with racing at its heart. Lowdon added that he “really wanted” to be a part of a team with such a love for racing.
“I believe that Formula 1 is the greatest team sport in the world, and teams are all about people. This is a team with a real love for, and desire to go, racing, and we have the experience and expertise to do just that. Racing is at the very heart of everything that we do. This is what I want to see in a team, and I really want to be part of it.”
However, despite his pride, Lowdon acknowledged that the position brought significant responsibility. However, he claimed to be looking forward to “the challenge of racing” and added that the team would continue working toward their debut.
“I don’t underestimate the task ahead and I have the utmost respect for the competition. I look forward to the challenge of racing. In the meantime, our work continues at pace.”
Lowdon’s experience “will serve him well” — Towriss
TWG Global’s CEO Dan Towriss stated that Lowdon’s experience in team management, engineering and operations in motorsport, both in F1 and WEC, has made a valuable asset to the Cadillac F1 project since his recruitment in 2023. This experience, Towriss claimed, would serve Lowdon well, as he continued his work towards building the Cadillac team.
“Graeme has been advising our team for the last two years as we have built out our operations; his experience on both the technical and managerial sides of Formula 1 and other motorsport ventures will serve him well as he builds the Cadillac Formula 1 team.”
Lowdon “a pleasure to work with” — Reuss
General Motors President Mark Reuss, expressed similar sentiments. He described Lowdon as having been “a pleasure to work with” since he was tasked with leading the development of the team. He expressed confidence in Lowdon’s abilities as team boss and added that Lowdow was an embodiment of the Cadillac F1 Team’s values.
“Graeme has been a pleasure to work with over the past two years and we’re excited he will lead our journey to the 2026 Formula 1 grid as Team Prinicpal.
“He has great racing experience, he knows how to assemble a high-performing team and he embodies the values the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will represent in all its endeavors, on and off the track.”
