The American Formula E team has finally announced their complete driver lineup for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, following Stoffel Vandoorne’s move to Maserati after two seasons.
Two times champion Jean-Eric Vergne will team up with Maximilian Günther, formerly at the Italian outlet. The German driver has five career race wins in the championship, with the latest coming in Tokyo in the past season.
Gunther commented on the announcement, paying extra regards to team owner Jay Penske, with whom is reconnecting following his Formula E debut in 2019 for his at time team Dragon Penske :
“I’m very happy to be joining DS PENSKE, a powerhouse in the championship and a project with strong vision. We share the same ambitions and are all driven to be at the top of Formula E. Representing DS Performance, a manufacturer which has won several championships already is a real privilege.”
“Same for being teammate with a champion like Jean-Eric Vergne, it’s something I really look forward to. A very special element for me is to drive for Jay’s team again, he brought me into the championship when I was 20 years old. I’m proud to be part of the team and excited of what we will build together in the future.”
The French DS Penske driver praised his future teammate as well, admitting he’s looking forward to begin a new challenge and season alongside him:
“Having Max on the team feels right. His calm under the pressure and make bold moves on the track will be a huge asset to the team. We share a common goal to push the team to the top of the standings. With our combined skills and determination, I am looking forward to a thrilling season ahead!”
Team Owner Jay Penske saluted the signing as a way to further boost the performance of his team up in the standings, following the great achievement of P3 in the constructors’s standings reached in the past Season 10 with four podiums scored between his two drivers.
