Haas have requested a right of review as they lodged a position to get the results of the United States Grand Prix changed.
Controversy arose in the following days as it emerged that Sergio Perez had cut turn 6 on numerous occasions throughout the race when you look at onboard footage from his car and ones behind him.
Alex Albon also escaped any further penalties beyond his 5-second one handed out on the day as the FIA stated post-race that “based on the video footage available (which did not include CCTV), the Stewards
determine, whilst there might be some indication for possible track limit infringements in Turn 6, the evidence at hand is not sufficient to accurately and consistently conclude that any breaches occurred and therefore take no further action.”
For next year’s race, cameras would be installed and positioned to make sure the breaches at turn 6 could be proper seen.
According to Auto Motor und Sport who first reported it, the following penalties would apply if Haas’ evidence is correct:
Alex Albon could face fifteen 5-second penalties for violating track limits during the race.
Sergio Perez could face eighteen 5-second penalties for violating track limits during the race.
Logan Sargeant could face three 5-second penalties for violating track limits during the race.
Lance Stroll could face sixteen 5-second penalties for violating track limits during the race.
If Haas are successful with their request to get a review by bringing sufficient new evidence to the table, it could fundamentally change the result of the United States Grand Prix.
The order would be Verstappen, Norris, Sainz, Russell, Gasly, Tsunoda, Hülkenberg, Bottas, Sargeant and Perez.
Heading into today’s sprint at Interlagos, the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship looks like this:
- 7) Williams 28
- 8) AlphaTauri 16
- 9) Alfa Romeo 16
- 10) Haas 12
Should the results be altered, Williams would lose a point, with AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Haas all gaining four to their totals.
