Lewis Hamilton was very happy with qualifying P4 for tomorrows Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Hamilton finished up in P3 after Q1, less than a tenth down on Fernando Alonso in P2. However Hamilton scraped into Q3 after finishing in P10 at the end of Q2, which indeed was a tricky session with the changeable conditions from inters to dry Pirelli tyres.
In Q3 like others, Hamilton was impacted by the red flag for the stricken McLaren of Oscar Piastri. However finishing in P4, Hamilton was very happy and admitted that it was very tricky conditions.
“Most people would underestimate how hard it was out there for everybody, so it was very tricky to keep it on track, and deliver when the time counts and ya it was really hard t o keep the car on track, it was very slippery, really difficult to generate temperature in the tyres but I’m grateful for this result for George and I so hopefully from there we can move forwards.”
Hamilton spoke about his prospects for tomorrow’s race and is hoping their updated package will show some great race pace like it did in Spain.
“We should be in a much better position with race pace, our race pace is often better, I’m hoping is it tomorrow. It was difficult to gauge yesterday as we did our long run at the beginning of the session when the track was a lot slower and the others did it later when it was faster so its difficult to know where we were at. We are ahead of the Ferraris.”
Expanding further, Hamilton hopes to put pressure on his former teammate Fernando Alonso as they battle for P3 in the Drivers’ Championship.
“Max will be gone most likely but if I can hold onto Alonso and give him hell that’s what I’ll do.”
