With Logan Sargeant’s contract ending at the end of the 2024 season, questions arise on his future beyond Spa as we are nearing the summer break. The American is one of the three drivers yet to score a point this season.
Despite not having points in his bag, Sargeant has shown performance improvements compared to last season, getting closer to teammate Alex Albon.
The Floridian is focusing on driving and getting the best out of himself, and not on what the future holds.
“At the moment, it’s like I said, keep doing what I’m doing, keep trying to perform better and better every single weekend. I don’t see why I can’t, so that’s the goal.”
It has been no secret that the Williams was struggling at the start of the season with a lack of spare parts and an overweight car. Sargeant missed the Australian Grand Prix as James Vowles elected to give Alex Albon his car — the Thai crashed heavily in FP1 and destroyed his chassis.
Sargeant has also been at a disadvantage from Miami all the way through to Spain as teammate Alex Albon got the upgrades first, mostly including lighter parts. Since Austria, they have been on the same specification.
The American has been pleased with his performances when factoring in the specification disadvantage.
“I think I’ve been in the rhythm for a long time now. I just didn’t have the chance to show it. I think I’m really happy with what I’ve been doing since Melbourne.
“I feel like I’ve been driving well, just not always given the opportunity to show it. And now that we have similar cars, it’s nice to have that chance every weekend.”
In his second season of Formula One, the 23-year-old talks about the rumours and noise inside the paddock, saying nobody knows what really goes on unless you are part of the team.
Despite the frustration, Sargeant is grateful for the opportunities he has and its not everyday that you can call yourself are a Formula One driver.
“I quickly realised that no one knows what truly goes on inside a team other than the people that are in it. Life’s not always fair, but it is what it is.
“There’s nothing to be disappointed about. I get to drive an F1 car and not many people can say that.”
