Jonathan Refoy, formerly of Interserve Group, a UK based firm, to join the FIA as Chief Communications Officer.
The FIA has today announced the recruitment of Jonathan Refoy as chief communications officer. Refoy has previous high profile communications experience with companies such as Tesco, Walmart and Amec Foster Wheeler. He will join the FIA later this month.
Previous sports related experience for Refoy includes leading communications of engineering firm CH2M. The firm served as delivery partner for the 2012 Olympic games in London. This saw CH2M oversee the construction of both Olympic venues, as well as associated infrastructure. The firm boasts their environmental achievements from the olympic project, including a 40% reduction to emissions.
Most recently, Refoy worked as part of the executive committee for Interserve group. Following a period of financial difficulties and restructuring, the group began to split up. Portions of the business were sold off beginning in 2020, while the firm was in administration.
This is some desperately needed good news for Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Since he took over the role, there has been a spate of exits from the organization.
A pleased FIA President
In a press release from the FIA, president Mohammed Ben Sulayem commented on the importance of Refoy’s role.
“Communications is at the heart of all we do at the FIA,” Ben Sulayem said. “I am delighted that someone of Jonathan’s calibre is joining the organisation to oversee our multi-channel communications activity.”
Refoy reacts
Refoy added to his comments, expressing his excitement for the role within the FIA as the organisation continues to develop.
“I am looking forward to joining the FIA,” he said. “Working with the President and colleagues to increase awareness of the critical role the FIA plays globally in grassroots and professional sport and mobility advocacy, while contributing to its ongoing organisational and commercial transformation.
