Rupert Manwaring will be swapping Ferrari for Red Bull Racing in 2024 as he leaves his role as performance coach/personal trainer to Carlos Sainz and will start working with Max Verstappen.

Manwaring spent eight years with the Spaniard and was a key cog in Sainz’s rise up the grid. From the first podium with McLaren at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix to the 28-year-old’s first pole and victory at Silverstone last year with the Scuderia, he has been there for the greatest moments of Sainz’s career to date.

The British performance coach is continuing an F1 legacy as his father — also named Rupert — spent over 25 years in Formula One as a Racing Director, Team Manager and Commercial Director. He worked with the likes of Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber and Max Verstappen’s father, Jos.

Max Verstappen’s current trainer Bradley Scanes worked with him since the beginning of 2020. In his time with the Dutchman, he played his part in helping the 26-year-old win his first Drivers’ World Championship. He also continued to help him go on to claim three successive ones as the sport very much entered a Verstappen era.

Verstappen broke a number of records in their time together, including 10 wins on the spin and 19 victories overall during an astonishing 2023 campaign.
