Amidst the pre-season drama and speculation that has been occurring within the Formula 1 sphere, 18-year-old Oliver Bearman has secured a spot as an Official Reserve Driver for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in the much-awaited 2024 season.
A rising star from the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, Bearman is set to rev things up and showcase his skills in six free practice sessions throughout the season, adding an extra level of excitement to those race weekends.
After making his F1 debut with Haas in 2023, participating in FP1 sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi, Bearman earned not only admiration and exposure but also confirmed his spot as a reserve driver for the American team this season.
Reflecting on his upcoming role, the British racer is enthusiastic, saying, “I’m really happy to be part of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team for the upcoming season. I had a great experience last year working with everyone at the team, and I’m looking forward to building on that this year.”
“There are several events I’ll be doing FP1’s at – alongside the reserve duties, which is exciting. I’m grateful to Haas F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari for their faith and for supporting me.”
The driver’s journey with Haas in 2023 meant more than just getting a feel for the track – he clocked substantial mileage during the post-season test at the Yas Marina Circuit. This experience undoubtedly grabbed the team’s attention, leaving Team Principal Ayao Komatsu pleased about Bearman’s ongoing participation.
“Oliver did a tremendous job for us last season, settling in well and working through both his FP1 run programs in Mexico and Abu Dhabi and then with his test program. We’re looking forward to giving him the opportunity for more outings in FP1 in 2024 – with testing at a premium, this is key running time, both for us to evaluate Oliver’s progress but also to enable him seat time in a Formula 1 car,” Komatsu said.
In addition to his commitments with Haas, Bearman is also a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari in 2024, showcasing the trust and support he has garnered within the racing community as a four-time winner in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
As the 2024 World Championship looms on the horizon, the announcement of Oliver Bearman as one of the Official Reserve Drivers for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team signifies a promising chapter in the team’s journey.
