After a season marred with bad luck and reliability issues, Josep Maria ‘Pepe’ Martí is setting his sights on the 2025 F2 title as he continues with Campos alongside 17-year-old Arvid Lindblad.

In 2024, Pepe Martí raced alongside Isack Hadjar at Campos for his rookie F2 season. However, after a difficult season, he finished 14th while his teammate was the runner-up. Hadjar then progressed to Formula 1 while Martí remains in the series for another year.

This year, he finds himself with another impressive teammate in Arvid Lindblad, the 17-year-old being described as “the next Max Verstappen” by the likes of Helmut Marko.

But Martí wants to prove that he too deserves to be in the conversation for a promotion to F1.

Reflections from 2024

Though he had struggles throughout the season, Martí showed more consistency and stronger results towards the end of the year. Even taking a win in the Abu Dhabi sprint race.

During the F2 media days that Pit Debrief attended with other publications, the Spaniard was asked how he intends to build on the strong finish.

He said, “The season ended well with a good run in Abu Dhabi, but I feel like it was a build-up. We were slowly making our way and I feel like we’re carrying that over to this year. I feel like I’m growing very well. I’ve got a lot to improve naturally, but I’m doing well.”

Staying with Campos adds a level of stability to his second F2 season that many other drivers across the grid won’t have. He admitted how he hopes he can bring them a title.”

“This is my fifth year [with Campos] so I know them very well. It’s good to remain with the same team. I know everyone very well and I’m hoping that the partnership allows me to fight for the championship this year.”

The Red Bull impact

In the past few years, Campos has consistently become a home to the Red Bull junior drivers. This is seen throughout various series from F1 Academy, F3, F2 and elsewhere. Both Lindblad and Martí are members of this programme.

Pepe Martí has been a Red Bull Junior since August 2023 and he praised their role in his development.

He said, “They help a lot. They have so many great people working for the team. You know, being able to learn from each and every individual is amazing.”

“That camaraderie is, I think, a really good learning part. You know what you need to do, the kind of people that you need to achieve a goal. They’re obviously a powerhouse, for me, the best team in the world.”

“It’s a privilege to be a part of their junior team, and being part of it, they want me to win championships.”
